Welcome to my website,
I am Eszter Szép, a doctoral candidate at Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE), Budapest, Hungary. I am researching and teaching comics here. I have submitted my PhD dissertation entitled Bodily Vulnerability in Nonfiction Comics: Interactions Among Artist, Object and Reader on 16 November 2017 (big day!), I am now waiting for the chance to publicly defend it as per the Hungarian way of obtaining PhD degrees. 🙂
I am a peer reviewer for Studies in Comics (2016-), and I am a news review correspondent to the Comics Forum. I am a founding member of the Narratives of Culture and Identity Research group, with who we have undertaking several interesting projects. With Kata Gyuris we organized an international conference on gendered identities in contemporary literary and visual cultures (info), and in January 2018 we published a collection of essays based on some of the papers read at the conference. You can find more info on the collection entitled Turning the Page here.
I am also a board member of the Hungarian Comics association, where I take part in organising festivals and talks.
I write articles and reviews both in English and in Hungarian. I love coffee, analog photography, and dinosaurs.
